Super Therm®

Ceramic Insulation That Blocks 99.5% of Heat Load

Super Therm®

What is Super Therm®?

Super Therm® is a water-borne, ceramic-based thermal-insulation coating, developed with NASA over six years, that blocks 99.5% of heat load by addressing all three forms of heat transfer, radiation, conduction, and convection. Unlike conventional insulation that only slows heat as it passes through, Super Therm® blocks solar energy at the surface so it never enters.

How It Works

Super Therm® uses four engineered ceramic compounds, each targeting a different part of the solar spectrum:

UV

blocks ultraviolet radiation

Visible light

blocks visible solar energy

Infrared

blocks IR radiation (the dominant heat carrier)

Emissivity

releases any absorbed heat efficiently

The ceramics are ground to microscopic spheres, producing a smooth finish that looks more like paint than insulation – but functions completely differently.

Why Choose Us

Proven Results

Sony (Koda, Japan):

peak demand cut 86% (3,764 → 519 kW in May); 13-month payback. Subsequently specified for a new 700,000 sq ft facility in Malaysia.

Aramco (Saudi Arabia):

coated NGL spherical tanks ran ~15°C cooler than uncoated tanks (35.1°C vs. 50.9°C in 32°C ambient), reducing flaring from internal pressure.

U.S. Air Force test (Tucson, AZ)

uninsulated metal building coated with Super Therm® held an 85°F interior through 111–113°F desert heat with AC off, with 60 people inside and doors open.

Mitsubishi (Japan):

all 39 tanks (30,000 KL) at the Hokko Terminal coated; cooling efficiency improved 20%, VOC emissions reduced significantly. The first tank, coated in 1996, was still performing in 2009 with only a topcoat refresh.

Thermophysical Research Lab:

367.20 BTU conducted through bare metal plate → 3.99 BTU with one coat of Super Therm® at 7–8 mils (99% reduction).

Florida DOE:

39% utility-bill reduction with a 2.2-year payback.

Russia Academy of Science:

96% total heat block confirmed

COSMO Oil (Japan):

99% IR block; 92% total solar reduction.

No. Super Therm® is not conductive insulation and is not rated by R-value. It is rated on BTU heat block — 99.5% — and works by blocking radiant solar heat at the surface. It must be applied on the exterior of a structure to do its job.

260°C (500°F) continuous. For hotter surfaces, use HSC™ or HPC®. For active fire protection, use Omega Fire.

Yes. The structure begins cooling on application, and the coating stays effective for 30+ years with minimal deterioration.

Is there a “winter penalty”? Slight, but insignificant in Hawaiʻi. Independent reports confirm that for cool roofs in suitable climates, the cooling savings far exceed any heating penalty — and Hawaiʻi’s climate is overwhelmingly cooling-dominated.

Super Therm® is the industrial flagship: 99.5% heat-load block, 30+ year life. Sunshield® is the consumer-grade version: ~85% solar heat block, ~10-year life, lower cost. For most homes, Sunshield® is the right starting point; for commercial, industrial, and marine projects, Super Therm® is the standard.
