Heat Management Coatings

Direct Heat Where You Need It

Heat Management Coatings

Two Directions of Heat Management

Heat management means controlling where heat goes — either keeping it out (block) or keeping it in (retain). SPI has dedicated products for each:

GoalProduct
Block incoming solar / radiant heatSuper Therm® · Sunshield®
Retain process heat on the surfaceHSC™ (66–176°C surface temp)
Insulate hot pipes against heat loss (no shutdown)HPC® · HPC®-HT
Reduce condensation loss on cold pipesMoist Metal Grip + Super Therm®

Why Retaining Heat Matters Industrially

A pipe carrying hot process fluid loses heat continuously through its surface — heat the boiler has to replace by burning more fuel. Coat that pipe with HSC™ and the surface temperature equals the interior process temperature, instead of dropping as heat radiates away. That’s energy that stays where it’s productive.

HPC® on a 478°C Pipe

HPC® was applied to a pipe operating at 478°C (892°F). After a 1-inch coat, the surface was touchable at about 60°C. Same heat inside, dramatically less heat lost — and dramatically safer for workers.

Featured Project — Georgia-Pacific

HPC® on a paper-mill digester tank delivered: – 49% heat-loss reduction – $332,000 in annual energy savings – 2023 EPA Energy Star Award
