Energy and mining operations live and die on uptime and asset integrity. Corrosion that goes undetected closes a pipeline. Heat loss that nobody measures adds millions in fuel costs. A coating that requires a shutdown to apply can be more expensive than the corrosion it would prevent.
SPI’s energy line addresses all of these.
corrosion protection on drill pipe, refinery equipment, pipelines
wet, subsea, and buried metal
live hot pipe insulation
interior of chemical tanks
fire protection in refineries and processing facilities
Rust Grip® rated #1 by the Society of Petroleum Engineers in an 8-year Chevron study of 18 coatings on offshore drill pipe. Workstrings International recorded 3,500,000+ feet of completion tubulars with zero corrosion downgrades.
HPC® on Georgia-Pacific Naheola paper mill digester tank: – 49% heat-loss reduction – $332,000 in annual energy savings – 2023 EPA ENERGY STAR Energy Saving Award
Aramco — Jyaymah NGL spherical tanks (Saudi Arabia): – Sun radiation was causing critical psi pressure increase → flaring – Ambient 32°C / uncoated tank 50.9°C / Super Therm®-coated tank 35.1°C — a 15°C difference – Interior temperature dropped enough to stop blow-off and reduce flaring
Oil storage tank evaporation loss: – 40 crude oil storage tanks at Khark Island, Iran: annual evaporation loss = 8,000 barrels – At $107/barrel = $856,000 saved from evaporation in three months when Super Therm® reduces solar absorption – Super Therm® at 0.25 mm has a U-value of 0.559 W/m²/K
Moomba Oilfield (South Australia, 2001): hot-water tank dropped from 46°C to 24°C passively after Super Therm® — solving a “showers too hot for crew” problem.
Hot pipe video demonstration: pipe reduced from 232°C (450°F) down to 35°C (95°F) during HPC® application.
For buried pipelines, the HPC®-based non-shielding system addresses Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) and cathodic shielding simultaneously. See the HPC® page for the full multi-layer specification.

Find answers to common questions about our services, processes, and how we work with clients across various industries.
No. Super Therm® is not conductive insulation and is not rated by R-value. It is rated on BTU heat block — 99.5% — and works by blocking radiant solar heat at the surface. It must be applied on the exterior of a structure to do its job.
260°C (500°F) continuous. For hotter surfaces, use HSC™ or HPC®. For active fire protection, use Omega Fire.
Yes. The structure begins cooling on application, and the coating stays effective for 30+ years with minimal deterioration.
Is there a “winter penalty”? Slight, but insignificant in Hawaiʻi. Independent reports confirm that for cool roofs in suitable climates, the cooling savings far exceed any heating penalty — and Hawaiʻi’s climate is overwhelmingly cooling-dominated.
Super Therm® is the industrial flagship: 99.5% heat-load block, 30+ year life. Sunshield® is the consumer-grade version: ~85% solar heat block, ~10-year life, lower cost. For most homes, Sunshield® is the right starting point; for commercial, industrial, and marine projects, Super Therm® is the standard.
