HSC™ Hot Surface Coating

What is HSC™?

HSC™ is a ceramic-and-acrylic, single-component, water-based coating for surfaces operating between 66°C and 176°C (150–350°F). Where Super Therm® blocks exterior solar heat from entering, HSC™ does the opposite — it traps interior process heat on the surface so it doesn’t escape. That saves energy, protects workers from burns, and stabilizes process temperatures. It is applied while the surface is hot — no downtime — and tests show it stays adhered with constant performance at temperatures above 1,093°C (2,000°F).

How It Works

Super Therm® uses four engineered ceramic compounds, each targeting a different part of the solar spectrum:

blocks IR radiation (the dominant heat carrier)

releases any absorbed heat efficiently

The ceramics are ground to microscopic spheres, producing a smooth finish that looks more like paint than insulation – but functions completely differently.

How HSC™ Works

Seven ceramic compounds create a barrier that catches and holds heat on the surface. Unlike thermal wraps that use air as their insulator, HSC™’s ceramics actively resist absorbing the heat that tries to escape — so heat stays on the surface where it’s productive.

After coating, the surface temperature equals the interior process temperature, instead of dropping as heat radiates away. That makes HSC™ a heat-retention coating rather than a heat-block coating.

Behavior in a Fire

During a fire event, HSC™ glazes to form a complete protective shield against flame, smoke, gases, and heat. It is not an intumescent coating — it behaves as a pliable film that reacts to flame, which makes it useful where intumescents are unsuitable (under wind pressure, on continuously hot surfaces).
