What is Omega Fire?

Omega Fire is a single-component, water-based fire-resistance coating built from eight ceramic compounds, engineered to withstand direct flame up to 1,200°C (2,200°F) and slow heat transfer to the protected side of the substrate. Unlike intumescent coatings — which expand under heat and can be blown off by wind, water spray, or pressure — Omega Fire forms a pliable ceramic shield. That approach is favored for marine, military, and high-wind applications where intumescents fail.

Testing & Certifications

Reformulation note: the manufacturer reformulated Omega Fire from 31 mm / 1,250 mils down to 11 mm / 450 mils to achieve the same results at lower cost. Preliminary lab burns are in progress; currently achieving 4-hour endurance at 120°C on the underside. Confirm current certification status with SRM Group LLC before specifying.

Why Ceramic Instead of Intumescent?

The U.S. military has effectively banned intumescent coatings in certain applications because they blow off under wind or pressure during a fire — exactly when they’re needed most. Omega Fire’s ceramic system forms a stable, pliable shield that doesn’t blow off, stays bonded, and continues working through the duration of the event.

Typical Applications

Exterior Use — Topcoat Required

If applied on an exterior surface, Omega Fire must be top-coated with Enamo Grip® or Super Therm® for UV protection, weathering, and durability. The ceramic membrane is engineered for fire performance, not direct UV exposure.

The base ASTM E84 Class A rating is in place, and Omega Fire has passed multiple project-specific fire tests (including the NYC 2-hour beam test and 165 minutes of UL endurance without failure). Full UL 1709 / ASTM E119 certification is pending. Confirm current status with SRM Group LLC before specifying for a permitted project.

Intumescent coatings expand under heat to form an insulating char. Omega Fire is a ceramic system that doesn’t rely on expansion — it forms a pliable, heat-resistant shield. That makes it more reliable under wind, water spray, or pressure (which can blow intumescents off the substrate during a real fire).

Yes. In testing, an HPC® + Omega Fire system achieved a 7+ hour fire rating. For exterior use it pairs with Enamo Grip® or Super Therm® for UV protection.

It dramatically slows heat transfer through the substrate. Current testing shows the underside of a protected surface reaching only about 120°C after 4 hours of direct flame exposure — enough time for evacuation, suppression, and structural response.
